 “Zion—The Pure in Heart”

What exactly is Zion, and how do we achieve it? Is it something we wait for, or must we build it one brick and changed heart at a time? This final episode of the year explores the nature of Zion and how we achieve it.

I just finished listening to this episode in preparation for teaching this lesson next week. Upon reaching the end, I immediately started it again. As soon as I got to the end of Jared’s lesson, I went back to the beginning and listened once more. I will probably listen another couple of times before I prepare my lesson. It was so worthwhile and rewarding; some of the images that were born of Jared’s words (such as the meeting with the City of Enoch) moved me to tears. I am so grateful for this podcast! Thank you so much for the thought that goes into this and the powerful principles that you spread through this invaluable resource. God bless you!

Taught the lesson today and had a practical discussion about how we could become a zion community (Cokeville, WY) with ~ 85% LDS and wonderful non-LDS community. A couple of observations:

    * A vision or blueprint would be needed
    * Shared values related to unity, holiness, caring for poor would need to be articulated so they could be taught to future generations
    * Past Zion societies had Christ minister directly to them – City of Enoch, Nephites – the resulting peace was 200-300+ years – how do we prepare to receive Christ in that way. The sacrament covenant renewal provides the spirtual power individually.
    * Gifts are given in diverse ways to create zions. Peope would need to share their gifts for zion to come.
    * Not sure we could create a zion’s society without our non-LDS neighbors.
    * We need to care for the poor – Although, I don’t think zion has a lot of loafers. The church’s welfare system requires something of those receiving the assistance.

    Thanks for the discussion.

All of the podcasts have been marvellous and enriched my understanding and given a new depth to my lessons.
But I had to share this weeks lesson because a 90 yr old member who always assigned the opening and closing prayer of the sunday school lesson died last week after a very short illness (days) and I was able to share the verse from Moses – how she would be kissed and embraced. It was the perfect start to the lesson – Appreciating this dear member in the class and then having such a wonderful comforting & uplifting scripture.
I have valued these podcasts so much. Thank you for your hard work, enthusiasm, commitment and love of knowledge & understanding and wanting to share it.
